1. What is the MiWay Affordable Transit Pilot program?

   > The MiWay Affordable Transit Pilot subsidizes 50% of the cost of a monthly PRESTO pass to low income individuals in Mississauga.
   > The pilot has been extended to September 30, 2017.



2. Why is this a pilot program?

   > MiWay transit is piloting this program to further understand the transit needs of low income individuals.
   > Throughout the program you will be asked to provide your feedback through focus groups and a short monthly survey.



3. Who is eligible for the pilot program?

All residents of Mississauga earning an income below the Low Income Measure (LIM) thresholds are eligible for the program. You will need to provide proof of income.

Note: Parents/Guardians must apply for individuals under 18. All individuals over 18 must apply on their own.



4. How much does the Affordable Transit Pass cost?

The cost of the pass varies depending on if you are an adult or senior.

5. How do I continue to receive the discount during the extension period?

In order to continue to receive the 50% discounted monthly pass for the duration of this extension, the PRESTO card that was provided to you by the Region of Peel when you joined the program must be reset to the “ATP Concession” BEFORE you can purchase your discounted monthly pass.

To continue to participate in the program, please do the following:

   > Take the PRESTO card that was provided to you by the Region of Peel to one of your local MiWay Customer Service Outlets listed below.
   > Ensure you communicate to the Customer Service Representative that you are a participant of the Affordable Transit Pilot Program to have your card number confirmed.
   > Have your ATP concession set by the Customer Service Representative and purchase your discounted monthly pass.

No new cards will be distributed at these locations for this discounted program. If you have lost your card, please contact the Region of Peel for a replacement.

  • Your ATP concession can be set on your PRESTO card at the following locations:
    MiWay Tickets and Passes Booth at the City Centre Transit Terminal (Square One)
  • MiWay Tickets and Passes Booth at Islington Subway Station

6. I already have a PRESTO card, do I have to get another one?

Yes, you will be issued a PRESTO card that has a special discount for this program.



7. What else is required?

Accepted applicants will be required to complete a short monthly survey to inform the program.



8. Can I travel on other transit service providers with this card?

If you would like to travel using other transit companies such the GO Transit, Brampton Transit, TTC or others you will be required to load funds to your e-purse. When travelling on these other transit providers you will be charged at the adult rate. The discount only applies to the MiWay monthly pass.



9. Does the pass last 30 days after I purchase it?

No, the pass will only last until the end of that month. For example if you buy your pass on June 9th it will expire on June 30th.



10. Why do I need to register the card?

You will be required to register the PRESTO card in order to participate in the program. By registering the card if anything happens to it (lost, damaged or stolen), the monthly pass you purchased can be transferred to a new card.



11. What happens if the card is damaged, lost or stolen?
